Behind the Scenes:

MANNING CARTELL Celebrates 20 Years in New York

To mark 20 years of MANNING CARTELL, we took the brand to the world stage: New York City. A place of ambition, freedom, and reinvention, it was the perfect backdrop to reflect our journey — from Australian roots to global recognition.

Founded in Sydney in 2005 by sisters Cheryl, Vanessa and Gabrielle Manning, MANNING CARTELL has always stood for creativity, confidence, and craftsmanship. Over two decades the brand has grown from a boutique label into one of Australia’s most respected names in fashion, recognised for its commitment to Australian made design, ethical production, and timeless style. From unforgettable runway shows to iconic pieces like the gold chain mini dress and flight pant, MANNING CARTELL has shaped how women express strength and individuality through clothing.

This anniversary campaign wasn’tjust about fashion; it was about community. With an almost entirely Australian crew and talent in New York, the day became a living symbol of how Australian fashion brands can thrive on a global stage while staying true to their origins.

Stylist Gemma Brookes described the day as a career highlight and a deeply personal full-circle moment: “This felt like a big milestone for me. I just passed my one-year mark in New York, but I can still remember being in fashion college in Sydney years ago and doing one of my first internships for MANNING CARTELL. To now be styling the brand’s 20th anniversary campaign in New York felt surreal.” For her, the city itself became part of the story: “The sun was shining, the team was amazing, and the city was alive and buzzing. Shooting at the Top of the Rock and then under the Williamsburg Bridge, where I could see my apartment across the river — made me emotional. It was iconic.”

For Creative Director Kelly Atkinson, the shoot captured the heart of the brand: “Celebrating MANNING CARTELL’s 20th anniversary in New York felt like the perfect mix of creativity and our combined purpose. The entire team, from crew to talent was Australian, which made it feel like a true movement. There was such authenticity in bringing our people together abroad to showcase Australian fashion in such a powerful way. This is my purpose.” She remembers the spirit on set as joyful and collaborative: “No egos, just an amazing group of people with the same vision. Everyone showed up with positive energy and it created a strong, collaborative spirit that made the whole day flow very easily.”

For hair and makeup artist Ayaka Nihei, the campaign showcased both beauty and culture: “I’mvery grateful to participate in their 20th year shoot. After working with the brand for many years in New York, it felt like a privilege to be able to work with them for this milestone. The energy was positive, respectful, and energetic from start to finish. For me, the rooftop shoot was the moment, looking out over the New York City skyline while creating looks for such an iconic brand. It was unforgettable.”

Producer Rebecca Deasy shared how the team’s adaptability mirrored the resilience of MANNING CARTELL itself: “Personally it meant a lot for MANNING CARTELL to entrust us with carrying out their vision for this special 20th anniversary campaign. Creatively, it was a challenge we were ready to tackle head on, shooting in a new city and country required adaptability. The energy was fast-paced and hectic, but filled with fun and laughter. That’s what got us through the day.” She recalls a moment of pure New York improvisation: “When we shot Bambi in the corner of Radio City Hall, we had to adapt because Sunday markets closed the main road. Instead of seeing it as a setback, we embraced the hustle and bustle of the city and made it a part of the campaign.”

Model Bambi Northwood-Blyth brought a layer of nostalgia to the shoot, reflecting on her long history with the brand: “ I had so many memories of past MANNING CARTELL runway shows as I put on pieces I’ve loved and worn over the years. Who could forget the gold chain mini dress? I think I lived in that for a bit and the flight mode pant too. To celebrate 20 years in New York with this incredible team was magic.”

From rooftops with sweeping Manhattan views to the underbelly of Williamsburg Bridge, every frame captured the bold, confident spirit of MANNING CARTELL. Over the past 20 years, the brand has not only defined Australian made fashion at home but has also expanded its influence abroad, proving that Australian style resonates globally.

This anniversary campaign was more than a shoot. It was a celebration of two decades of innovation, community, and timeless design — and a statement of what’s to come. MANNING CARTELL is, and always will be, a leader in Australian fashion, ready to shape the next 20 years.
